The recent
deaths of three officers travelling to or from
duty highlight a dramatic rise in such deaths in recent
years. Research
carried out by the Trust indicates that whilst on duty road deaths have decreased by 60%
over the last 50 years, deaths while travelling have increased by 140% and now
outnumber road deaths on duty.

Gallantry Medal to DC Stephen Oake, GMP, died 2003;
and the Queen's Commendation for Bravery to PC Richard Gray,

Police Memorial
was built by the Police
Memorial Trust with the
Roll
of Honour provided by the Police Roll of Honour
Trust. The Roll gives special recognition to some 1,600 fallen police
heroes and heroines, killed by criminal acts, effecting
arrests, acts of gallantry or other hazardous duty,
taken from the 4,000 names on the
National Police Officers Roll of Honour.
