members of the public at Workington during devastating
floods throughout the county.

by the Trust shows a large rise in deaths while travelling to or from duty:
at least 53 since 2000, now outnumbering road deaths on operational
duty and at 38% the
most common cause
of all duty
related deaths.

by Michael Winner's Police Memorial Trust to Constable
Sharon Beshenivsky, murdered on duty in 2005

Firearms officer, Gary Toms, dies of injuries six days after attempting
to arrest robbery suspects in East London.

Stephen Carroll is the first Police Service
of Northern Ireland officer to be murdered on duty.

Gallantry awards made to murdered police officers: the
Queen's
Gallantry Medal to DC Stephen Oake, GMP, died 2003;
and the Queen's Commendation for Bravery to PC Richard Gray,

in 2005 by Her Majesty The Queen the
National
Police Memorial
was built by the Police
Memorial Trust with the
Roll
of Honour provided by the Police Roll of Honour
Trust. The Roll gives special recognition to some 1,600 fallen police
heroes and heroines, killed by criminal acts, effecting
arrests, acts of gallantry or other hazardous duty,
taken from the 4,000 names on the
National Police Officers Roll of Honour.
