Alan Christopher Lovett

Died 27 November 2006, aged 46


Collapsed and died of heart failure while on duty in the early hours
as Custody Sergeant at Hatfield Police Station.

Alan had 25 years service having served with the Metropolitan Police for 15 years prior to his transfer as a sergeant to Hertfordshire where he served on CID and as a Custody Officer.
He is survived by his fiancée, his daughter aged 24 and two sons aged 16 and 11 years.


 

Conal Daood Hills

Died 19 November 2006, aged 36


Died as a result of serious injuries sustained in the early hours of 18 November, while responding to an emergency call, when his police patrol car left the road, collided with a stone wall and overturned at Yeadon near Leeds.

Conal had joined West Yorkshire Police in June 2003 and was a Uniform Patrol Officer and Tutor Constable based at Weetwood Police Station in Leeds.
He is survived by his partner, their son and daughter aged 7 and 2 years;
his parents, two brothers and two sisters.


 

Kevin Lowe

Died 20 October 2006, aged 46


Killed in a road traffic accident, while on an emergency call responding to the scene of a road crash at Dundonald, when the unmarked police vehicle he was driving was in collision with a vehicle on the A77 near Symington, Ayrshire.

Kevin joined Strathclyde Police in 1982, he had been a Traffic Officer since 1992
and was stationed with the Road Policing Department at Ayr.
He is survived by his fiancée, his two sons aged 18 and 17 years, his mother and two brothers.

Died 24 August 2006, aged 46


Killed in a road accident while on duty travelling from Wrexham to Colwyn Bay when his unmarked police motorcycle crashed on the A5 at Cerrigydrudion.

Ric joined the force in July 1980, he had worked on Foot Patrol, the Traffic Department
and the Regional Crime Squad prior to his current posting as a surveillance
motorcyclist on the Crime Services Division.
He is survived by his wife, two daughters aged 22 and 20, and a son aged 8 years.


 

John Simmons

Died 5 August 2006, aged 27


Killed in a road accident while travelling home from duty after policing a football match at Luton when his motorcycle crashed at Houghton Conquest.

John joined the force in July 2000, following previous service as a Special Constable,
and worked at Greyfriars Police Station, the Airport Unit and finally with the force's
Firearms Support Unit. In 2006 he received a Divisional Certificate of Merit
commending his actions at a firearms incident.
He is survived by his parents and younger brother.


 

Allan Shaw

Died 19 July 2006, aged 33


Killed in a road traffic accident while taking part in VIP escort practice when his motorcycle was in collision with a stationary heavy goods vehicle in Bolton.

 
Allan was appointed to the Force in August 1999 and was working as a motorcycle
traffic officer based in the Area 2 Road Policing Unit at Plant Hill.
He is survived by his wife and two year old daughter, his parents and two brothers.

Died 25 May 2006, aged 31


Fatally injured in a road traffic accident when he was struck by a lorry while
he was on foot in the Hyde Park area of Doncaster where he was seconded to South Yorkshire Police working undercover on a major drugs operation.

 
Ryan was appointed to the Force in June 2001, having previously served with the Royal Navy. He was based on a Neighbourhood Team at Bridge Street West Police Station in Birmingham; he was an experienced undercover operative and had received several Commendations
for his good police work.
He is survived by his wife, his parents and sister.

Died 27 April 2006, aged 37


Killed in a road traffic accident whilst travelling to report for duty at Exmouth when his motorcycle was in collision with a van near Ottery St Mary, Devon.

 
Paul was appointed to the Force in August 1996 following service as a Special Constable; he was stationed at Exmouth where he was a Neighbourhood Beat Team Leader.
He is survived by his partner of 13 years, a serving officer, who is expecting their first child.

Died 13 April 2006, aged 46


Killed in a car crash while transporting a prisoner with another officer, to a police station in Newcastle during the early hours, when the prisoner caused his patrol car to leave the road and overturn on the A69 near Corbridge.

 
Joe had been appointed to the force in July 1982, he was stationed at Bellingham where he had served for 13 years and was a highly regarded local community beat officer.
He is survived by his wife, his mother and two sisters.

 


 

Deborah Harman-Burton

Died 24 March 2006, aged 28


Killed in a road accident, whilst travelling home from night duty with another officer, when the car in which she was a passenger was involved in a collision near Kenilworth.

 
Debbie was appointed in August 2003 after previous work in a Warwickshire Police communications centre; she was stationed at Coventry where she was commended
for bravery and crime reduction.
She is survived by her partner, a serving officer injured in the collision;
her parents and two sisters.

 


 

Alan McMurray

Died 4 February 2006, aged 39


Killed when he was struck by a passing van while he was assisting the accident investigation officer at the scene of a hit and run road traffic collision early in the morning at Broxburn, West Lothian.

 
Alan was appointed in March 1993 and served in Edinburgh; in May 2001 he became a Traffic Officer and was stationed at Livingston. He was commended for bravery for assisting to rescue a man trying to jump off a bridge in 2004.
He is survived by his wife, a serving officer, two daughters aged 4 and 2 years
and his mother and older brother.

Died 31 January 2006, aged 45


Collapsed and died of heart failure when cycling on a road exercise while undertaking a police cycle training course at Hendon.

 
Adrian had joined the police service as a PCSO in September 2002
and was stationed at Charing Cross Police Station.
He is survived by his partner.

Died 5 January 2006, aged 37


Killed in a road traffic accident while travelling to report for duty at Duns when her car was in collision with a van near Greenlaw in the Scottish Borders.

 
Karen had 14 years service and was based at Duns Police Station where she was known for her work in the community and her involvement with local schools and other agencies.
She is survived by her husband and her parents, brother and three sisters.
