Roderick Norton Daniels
Police Constable Essex Police Died 8 February 2001, aged 53 |

While returning from court, in an unmarked car, he stopped to assist at the scene of an accident in wet weather on the A12 at Kelvedon. As he walked back, wearing a reflective jacket, to warn oncoming vehicles of the obstruction he was struck by a car and killed.
Rod had completed over 30 years service, mostly as a traffic officer and was stationed on the Mobile Support Division at Rayleigh. He had been commended by the Crown Court and his Chief Constable for bravery in confronting an armed man and had three other commendations for outstanding police work. He was survived by his wife and two teenage sons, one of whom had recently been accepted as a recruit into the force.

Robert Graham
Police Constable Cheshire Constabulary Died 13 February 2001, aged 56 |
|
Fatally injured in a road traffic accident while travelling home from duty when his motorcycle was in collision with a heavy goods vehicle at Warrington.
Robert
was due to retire in May after 30 years service having served with Lancashire
until the 1974 amalgamation; he had been stationed at Warrington since 1993
where he was a traffic officer.
He was survived by his wife, adult daughter
and baby grandson.

Peter Charles Evans
Police Constable Suffolk Constabulary Died 24 February 2001, aged 33 |

Killed in a road accident while travelling in an armed response vehicle, which was returning to base at the end of a shift in the early hours, when it left the road, overturned and hit an electricity pole near Bury St Edmunds.
Peter was a single man and had over nine years service with the force.
He was attached to the Western Area Operations Support Group at Bury St Edmunds.

Alison Armitage
Police Constable Greater Manchester Police Died 5 March 2001, aged 29 |

While on plain clothes duty keeping observation on a stolen car in Oldham, a suspect returned to the vehicle and, in attempting to stop him driving away she went to the rear of the car, which reversed and knocked her down then ran over her causimg multiple injuries from which she later died.
An 18 year old man was charged with murder but convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to 8 years imprisonment.
A memorial plaque was erected at Force Headquarters and a tree and plaque dedicated to her memory at the 'Life for Life' Memorial Forest at Oldham.
In 2002 a stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust
Alison had completed five years service and was attached to Chadderton Operational Support Unit. She had been due a commendation for her role in foiling a bank raid three days earlier.
Alison was single and was survived by her parents and two elder sisters.

Anthony Ian Haines
Police Constable Metropolitan Police Died 14 March 2001, aged 42 |

Killed in a road accident, when his police response car crashed into a bus shelter on Blackheath Hill, in the early hours, while answering an emergency call to a domestic violence incident at Lewisham.
Anthony was married and had over 23 years service in the
force, which he joined as a Cadet. He was stationed at Greenwich.

Jeremy Scandrett
Police Constable Metropolitan Police Died 19 March 2001, aged 38 |

Killed while travelling to duty on the Firearms Branch at Lambeth, when his motorcycle was in collision with another vehicle at Wrotham, Kent.
Jerry had joined the force in 1993 after previous service in the Royal Military Police, he had been a member of the SO19 Firearms Branch since January 2000.
He was survived by his wife who was expecting their child at the time of his death.

Alan Douglas Jamieson
Inspector Metropolitan Police Died 25 May 2001, aged 37 |

Killed in a road traffic accident while cycling to his home in Billericay after finishing a tour of duty in the Information Room at New Scotland Yard.
Alan had completed 17 years service, mostly in East London and at the time of his death was a Team Inspector in the Force information Room. He was survived by his wife and three children.

Timothy Burton
Detective Constable Leicestershire Constabulary Died 29 June 2001 |

Killed in a road accident, while returning with two colleagues, from routine enquiries out of the force area, when the unmarked police car he was driving went out of control and crashed into the central reservation of the A50 near Burnaston, Derbyshire.
Tim was a member of the Special Operations Unit based at Hamilton Police Station.

Fatally injured in a road
traffic accident, while riding a police motorcycle as a member of the force
Intelligence Support Team, when he collided with a kerb and was thrown from the
machine at the Netherfield Roundabout, Milton Keynes.
Dave was a married man with 12 years service in the
force; he was a member of Northern Area Intelligence Support Team based in
Oxfordshire. He had been commended by the Chief Constable in 1998 for dealing
with a man threatening to set himself and a petrol station alight.

Gary Clarke
Police Constable Merseyside Police Died 7 August 2001, aged 38 |

Killed in a road accident
while travelling home from work when a car, travelling in the opposite direction,
went out of control and struck his bicycle at Birkenhead.
Gary worked with the Traffic Department.
He was survived by his wife.

Malcolm Edward Walker
Police Constable West Midlands Police Died 4 October 2001, aged 46 |
|
While on routine patrol on a police motorcycle he attempted to stop a car that had driven through a red light at Perry Barr; the vehicle, which had recently been stolen, deliberately rammed the officer's machine with such force it was thrown over railings causing him multiple and fatal injuries.
A 23 year old man was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment.
'Mac' walker had 21 years service with the Force as a beat officer, a detective and an expert on car crime with the Force Vehicle Crime Unit before joining the Traffic Department at Sutton Coldfield in 1996. He had been commended four times by the Chief Constable.
He was survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.

Steven Frank Crawley
Police Constable Metropolitan Police Died 30 October 2001, aged 35 |

Killed in a motorcycle accident while he was travelling to report for night duty at Harrow, when he swerved to avoid a car and crashed at Hounslow.
Steven was still in his probation having been appointed in 2000 and served in Harrow Borough.
He was survived by his wife and son aged eight years.
