PC Bulleyment was killed together with four colleagues, WPS Burton, PC Renshaw, PC Ross and WPC Sullivan, in a road traffic accident when the coach, taking them to the Police Federation Conference at Blackpool, suffered brake failure, crashed into a roundabout and overturned near Wakefield.       

The coach was found to have defective brakes, the coach owners were fined for failing to maintain the brakes and the driver received an absolute discharge.

David joined the police force in 1967 and was stationed at Keighley.
He was survived by his wife and son and his twin brother.         

This was the highest loss of life to police officers in a single road accident.
