  William Swan

 Night Constable

Dundee City Police

Died 27 August 1868, aged 27

 

Found drowned in the King William Dock in Dundee, apparently having fallen into the water in the early hours while in the execution of his duty.

 


 

James Watson

 

Police Sergeant

Dundee City Police

Died 18 September 1870, aged 48

 

Killed, with the Fire Brigade Superintendent James Fyffe, while assisting with crowd control at the scene of a mill fire in Trades Lane, in the early hours, when they were buried in burning debris by the collapse of a wall.

 


 

Charles Cruickshank

Died 1 December 1882, aged 32

 

Collapsed and died of heart failure while on duty at Lochee Police Station.

 


 

David McBay

Died 19 August 1893, aged 44

 

Died from a stab wound to the abdomen inflicted on 15 August, while attempting to arrest a deranged man, who had already shot and wounded several people, including two police officers, and was besieged in a house.

 

An inscribed memorial stone was erected on his grave at Balgay Cemetery.

 


 

James Graham

Died 22 October 1894, aged 34

 

Collapsed and died from the rupture of a blood vessel while patrolling his beat at Abernethy.

 


 

James Paton Black

Died 4 November 1908, aged 21

 

While on foot patrol in the Earl Grey Dock, Dundee in the early hours, cries for help were heard and his helmet was later recovered from the water; his body was recovered the next day apparently having fallen in and drowned.

 


 

Adam Smith

Perth City Police

Died 23 April 1909, aged 25

 

While on plain clothes patrol during the evening, he had occasion to chase some youths who were illegally playing football in the street, when he collapsed and died from heart failure.

An inscribed memorial stone was erected by his comrades at Wellshill Cemetery, Perth.

 


 

John George Samuel

Died 28 May 1911, aged 22

 

While assisting in the rescue of a colleague who had got into difficulties bathing in the River Tay, he was holding the rope attached to a lifebelt, as it was too short he waded into the river but got out of his depth and drowned.

 


 

William Dickson

Died 21 October 1911, aged 52

 

Collapsed and died of heart failure while patrolling his beat at night.

 


 

William MacKintosh

Perthshire and Kinross-shire Constabulary

Died 24 September 1930, aged 31

 

While on route on a motorcycle from his rural station at Ballinluig to perform duty at Perth Hunt Races, it appears he swerved to avoid a stray bullock in the road and crashed his machine, sustaining fatal head injuries.

 


 

McGregor Walker

Died 16 September 1932, aged 31

 

While conducting a road check on licences of vehicles entering and leaving the city, a motor car he had stopped was run into by a drunken driver and he was knocked down and fatally injured.

 


 

Simon Fraser Taylor

Died 8 January 1938, aged 41

 

Found dead in a police box where he had collapsed while on duty.

 


 

Samuel McGowan

Perthshire and Kinross-shire Constabulary

Died 16 June 1940, aged 34

 

 Found drowned in the River Tummel after being on night duty.

 


 

Robert Stirrat

Dundee City Police

Died 5 May 1941, aged 24

 

 Soon after he went to investigate a housholder's report of an unfamiliar object, believed to be an unexploded bomb, found at Dundee, he was fatally injured when an explosion occurred, blowing off both his legs and an arm.

 


 

Alexander Christie

Died 30 May 1946, aged 36

 

Fatally injured in a road traffic accident while on motorcycle patrol near Kinross.

 


 

Thomas Robert Muir

Died 8 September 1953, aged 28

 

Killed in a road traffic accident while on police motorcycle patrol when he collided with a motor car at Callendar.

 


  

Alexander McGregor Graham

Died 27 August 1960 aged 27

 

Collapsed and died from heart failure outside Dunblane Police Station near the end of his night shift. 

 


Donald Robertson B.E.M.

 

Police Sergeant

Perth and Kinross Constabulary

Died 19 December 1965, aged 45

 

While manning a road block on the Perth to Glasgow road, set up in the evening to recapture three escaped prisoners from Perth Prison, he was struck by a motor van, sustained multiple injuries and was killed instantly.

 


James Easton Berwick

Died 19 July 1975, aged 54

 

Collapsed and died at Ardchoille police house while on early turn duty.

 


James Forbes Cumming

Died 6 February 1980, aged 40

 

Collapsed and died while pushing a motor car at the scene of a road traffic accident at Dundee.

 


William Mathieson

Died 26 September 1981, aged 21

 

Died as a result of injuries sustained on 13 August in a road traffic accident while on patrol in a police vehicle answering an emergency call of an officer requiring assistance.

 


Paul Richard North

Died 17 March 1987, aged 35

 

Fatally injured in a road accident while on mobile patrol near Perth.

 


David McKay Stewart

Killed in a road traffic accident while driving a police vehicle.

 


David Edward Andrew Connor

Died 31 August 2001, aged 42

 

Killed in a road traffic accident while travelling to police headquarters.

 


Malcolm Whigham

Died 16 August 2007, aged 42

 

Killed in a road traffic accident when his police motorcycle was in a collision with a car at Pumpherston, near Livingston, West Lothian, while working on secondment with the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency.
