Henry Green

Died 11 April 1863

 

Died during a violent struggle whilst attempting to arrest a man late at night at the Cross Foxes public house at Pentre Broughton.

 


 

William Jones

 

Police Constable

Anglesey Constabulary

Died 13 February 1864

 

Fatally injured when he was accidentally thrown from a cart while on duty.

 


 

John Purcell

 

Police Constable

Denbighshire Constabulary

Died 24 November 1865

 

Accidentally drowned whilst on duty late at night.

 


 

James Blythen

 

Police Constable

Flintshire Constabulary

Died 1 July 1913, aged 36

 

Fatally injured while directing traffic at Mold High Street, during the evening of a Mothers' Union festival, when he was accidentally struck from behind by a motor car and dragged some distance sustaining a fractured skull.

 


 

David Lewis

 

Police Sergeant

Denbighshire Constabulary

Died 5 October 1916, aged 41

 

While arresting two drunken soldiers for fighting at Wrexham on 21 June 1915, he was violently assaulted and kicked by one of the men, receiving injuries from the effects of which he subsequently died.

 


 

Robert Pritchard

 

Police Constable

Anglesey Constabulary

Died 22 November 1924, aged 49

 

He attended a farm at Gwalchmai to assist the landlord who had been threatened by the farmer with a shotgun; he entered the house and despite threats was approaching the suspect when he was shot in the chest at close range and died from his wounds the following day.

 

A memorial stone, inscribed in Welsh, was erected in Tabernacl cemetery at Tyngongl and later a plaque was placed at Police HQ at Colwyn Bay.

 


 

Thomas Williams

 

Police Constable

Caernarfonshire Constabulary

Died 22 February 1928, aged 36

 

Died from pneumonia contracted following on from him going into the water on 31 December 1927 to retrieve the body of a woman who had committed suicide in the sea at Caernarfon.

 


 

George Cledwyn Arthur

 

Police Constable

Anglesey Constabulary

Died 28 August 1941, aged 30

 

Drowned, along with ten other would-be rescuers, while making several attempts to rescue the three crew of an RAF bomber aircraft, which had crashed during a gale into the sea off Rhosneigr; he was in the second of four boats to put out, all of which capsized in the stormy seas.

 

Posthumously awarded the King's Commendation for Brave Conduct and the RNLI Bronze Medal

 


 

Eric Morris Jones

 

Police Sergeant

Denbighshire Constabulary

Died 2 September 1949

 

Found drowned in the sea at Colwyn Bay after he failed to make a point in the early hours while on night duty, he had slight head injuries but there was no evidence as to how he came to be in the water.

 


 

Robert Roberts

Died 8 September 1949, aged 45

 

Killed when he was run over by an express train while keeping observations for thieves during the early hours in the railway sidings at Shotton.

 


 

Selwyn Roberts

 

Police Constable

Gwynedd Constabulary

Died 3 July 1969, aged 37

 

Fatally injured when the police patrol car he was driving was in collision with a military vehicle near Llanwnda.

 


 
Kenneth Adrian Hill

North Wales Police

Died 20 October 1985, aged 21

 

 Fatally injured in a road traffic collision whilst en-route to intial training at the Police District Training Centre at Cwmbran.

 



Michael Evans

Died 7 January 1987, aged 30

 

Killed when his police patrol car skidded on ice and collided with an iron garage sign.

 


Andrew James Harrison

Died 27 October 1987, aged 21

 

 Fatally injured in a road traffic collision at Llay when returning home from duty at Wrexham.

 


 

Stephen John Tiley

Died 29 November 1992, aged 34

 

Fatally injured when his traffic patrol motorcycle collided with a car after a vehicle had been seen travelling at high speeds at Froncysyllte.

 


 

Ralph Charles Jones

North Wales Police

Died 13 July 1999, aged 34

 

Fatally injured whilst engaged on a motorcycle training course when his motorcycle was involved in a road traffic collision.

 


 

Andrew David Parker

 

Police Constable

North Wales Police

Died 23 September 2005, aged 30

 

 Fatally injured in a road accident while travelling home from night duty when he lost control of his motorcycle and was in collision with a vehicle at Bangor.

 


Richard Charles Gostage

 Police Constable

North Wales Police

Died 24 August 2006, aged 46

 

Killed in a road accident while on duty travelling from Wrexham to Colwyn Bay when his unmarked police motorcycle crashed on the A5 at Cerrigydrudion.
