UNCONFIRMED CASES - NORTH YORKSHIRE POLICE
 

The following officers have not been confirmed as having died in the line of duty or the date of death is unknown and further information is required before their names can be entered on the Roll of Honour. Anyone who can provide further information on any of these officers or who would wish to volunteer to carry out local research is asked to contact the Trust.
 


 

07/04/1915    Sgt       Thomas Wilson     North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary

Found unconscious on the railway line near Cargo Fleet in the early hours of 6 April, having been accidentally knocked down by an engine, and died from a fractured skull and multiple injuries the following day. (Not confirmed on duty.)

 


 

?</12/1919    Supt     Thomas Deighton          North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary

Died at Northallerton as a result of injuries received in a motorcycling accident with the County motorcycle. (Date and circumstances unknown)

 


 

?14/03/1921    Sgt       Herbert Hobson           East Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary

Fatally injured on 14 March in a motor cycle accident. (Not confirmed as on duty.)

 


 

10/06/1941    WRC   William Fowel Simpson            York City Police?

Died at the York County Hospital as a result of enemy action. (Recorded in Commonwealth War Graves Commission register of Civilian war dead, not confirmed as on duty.)

 


 

06/08/1962    PC       G. Poulson       North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary

Died from injuries received in a collision with a car when he was cycling on the main road between Redcar and Marske. (Not confirmed as on duty.)

 


 

26/07/1965    PC       George E. Lain     North Riding of Yorkshire Constabulary

Shot in the face with a sawn-off shotgun and partially blinded, while arresting a man in February 1965, as a direct result of which he took his own life.
