Lest We Forget 1940 - 1945 Deaths from other than by Enemy Action PC William George Morgan Died 29 February 1940, aged 47 Killed when hit by a bus in the blackout cycling to report for duty. PC Edwin Charles Castle Died 5 June 1940, aged 47 Found collapsed in a Police Box at Carshalton and died of heart failure. WRC Jack William Avery Died 6 July 1940, aged 28 Fatally stabbed by a suspect he was interrogating in Hyde Park. WRC Ernest Christopher George Valentine Taylor Died 20 September 1940, aged 34 Killed in a fall from a wall trying to extinguish a light during an air raid. PC Henry Thomas Brooks Died 30 September 1940, aged 47 Killed by the accidental discharge of a revolver on shift handover. PC Alexander McKinnon Died 24 October 1940, aged 37 Killed in a road traffic accident whilst on motorcycle patrol duty. WRC Douglas Hugh G. Van-Den-Bossche Died 3 November 1940, aged 37 Fatally injured cycling home after night duty in collision with a car. S/Sgt Herbert George Ross-Myring Died 11 November 1940, aged 35 Fatally injured cycling home from duty when struck by a car. SC Bertie Samuel Walter Marzetti Died 6 January 1941, aged 26 Fatally injured on bicycle patrol when hit by a lorry in the blackout. Sub-Div Insp John Henry Carter Died 15 July 1941, aged 47 Collapsed and died giving evidence at the North London Police Court. SC William Joseph Sutch Died 15 September 1941, aged 25 Fatally injured in a motorcycle crash riding to duty in the blackout. SC Arthur Cecil Guest Died 16 October 1941, aged 39 Fatally wounded when accidentally shot during firearms instruction. PC Henry Howard Tripp Died 7 April 1942, aged 49 Found dead beside his cycle having apparently collapsed going on duty. Sgt Edwin Charles Towers Died 24 September 1942, aged 49 Fatally injured in an accident whilst travelling on the prison van. S/Sgt William Grout Died 6 December 1942, aged 56 Killed in a road accident while cycling home from duty at night. PC Harry Pickett Died 15 May 1943, aged 51 Killed when struck by a passing lorry while questioning a suspect. PC Walter Charles Tralau Died 27 January 1944, aged 34 Fatally injured on cycle patrol when hit by a vehicle in the blackout. PC Henry Charles Ernest Howell Died 27 April 1944, aged 45 Fatally injured on bicycle patrol in the blackout when hit by an lorry. PC William Clarence Locke, 36 S/Sub-Insp Herbert James Patrick Linkins, 30 S/Sgt George Alfred Martin, 40 SC Ronald Percy Lewis, 26 Died 9 September 1940 All killed when a bomb hit Greenwich Police Station during an air raid. Stn/Sgt Wilfred John Chilcott Died 9 September 1940, aged 46 Killed on duty during in an air raid when a second bomb struck Putney station. PC William Stephen Waistell Died 12 September 1940, aged 28 Fatally injured by a bomb explosion cycling to duty in an enemy air raid. SC Leonard Francis Clarke Died 16 September1940, aged 28 Fatally injured by a bomb explosion guarding a disabled enemy aircraft. PC Horace Edward Andrews Died 17 September 1940, aged 34 Fatally injured by a bomb explosion on duty during an enemy air raid. WRC Reginald Frederick Block Died 17 September 1940, aged 46 Died as a result of injuries received during an enemy air attack. PC Edgar Gerald Benjamin Price Died 25 September1940, aged 29 Killed by a bomb when, off duty, he went to help in an enemy air raid. Sgt Herbert Charles Paisley Died 25 September 1940, aged 48 Killed by a delayed action bomb evacuating a house in an air raid. D/Sgt Frank Truscott Collins Died 25 September 1940, aged 34 Fatally injured when a parachute mine fell at West End Central. WRC Charles Henry James Huck Died 26 September1940, aged 35 Fatally injured in an air raid when he left a shelter to investigate a fire. PC Hubert Raymond Church Pryce Died 26 September1940, aged 26 Fatally injured by a bomb explosion on duty during an enemy air raid. DC Bernard McLaughlin Died 28 September 1940, aged 27 PC Reginald William Stanbridge Died 1 October 1940, aged 35 Fatally injured when a parachute mine fell at West End Central.
