Trust and dedicated by Her Majesty The Queen in 2001. Names highlighted in bold are also included in the Roll of Honour at New Scotland Yard of officers who lost their lives carrying out dangerous duties or acts of gallantry since 1920.
Lest We Forget PC George Stephen Funnell Died 2 January 1900, aged 33 Fatally burned rescuing three women in a fire at a public house. PC Ernest William Beckwith Died 21 January 1900, aged 33 Died of disease from injuries received in execution of his duty. PC William Goulder Died 1 April 1900, aged 40 Drowned when he fell in the river patrolling his beat on a foggy night. PC Richard Henry John Crabb Died 19 May 1900, aged 31 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. PC George Cooke Died 26 June 1900, aged 47 Died from a ruptured blood vessel by shouting at a sleeping carman. PC Henry John Jiggins Died 14 July 1900, aged 37 Died of disease from injuries received in execution of his duty. PC Ernest Thompson Died 1 December 1900, aged 32 Fatally stabbed by a man he had moved on at a street disturbance. PC Frederick James Kidd Died 26 December 1900, aged 23 Found drowned in a dock while on his beat in the early hours. PC Robert Smith Died 5 April 1901, aged 48 Died of disease from injuries received in execution of his duty. PC James Newbold Died 8 October 1901, aged 40 Drowned when he fell overboard from a police steam launch. Sgt Neil MacDougall Died 2 November 1901, aged 36 Fatally wounded when accidentally shot during police revolver practice. DC John Pickering Died 24 August 1902, aged 30 Died of disease from injuries received in execution of his duty. PC Arthur John Wilkins Healey Died 13 September 1902, aged 30 Fatally injured in a fall through a glass roof while checking premises. Sgt Frank Walter Osborne Died 5 March 1903, aged 46 Fatally injured in a collision with a horse and cart while cycling to duty. Sgt Henry George Morris Died 6 June 1903, aged 41 Died of disease from injuries received in execution of his duty. PC William Henry Campbell Died 19 June 1903, aged 32 Died as a result of injuries received when crushed on crowd control. PC James Joseph Wheatley Died 23 June 1903, aged 40 Found drowned in the river but how he got into the water is not known. PC George Cake Died 11 October 1903, aged 42 Died from head injuries when he accidentally fell while on his beat. PC Leonard Russell Died 13 November 1904, aged 34 Collapsed and died while in the act of arresting a man for drunkenness. PC James Frederick Macey Died 13 December 1904, aged 24 Collapsed and died following the arrest of a drunken woman. Sgt Thomas William Perry Died 20 May 1905, aged 46 Collapsed and died of heart failure after arresting two drunken men. PC Arthur John Sims Died 10 July 1905, aged 36 Collapsed and died after falling down some steps on his beat. PC William Percy Croft Died 9 September 1905, aged 28 Died of injuries received when he fell into a pit while chasing burglars. PC Frederick Paul Mellars Died 6 January 1907, aged 44 Beaten by a gang from which he never recovered dying of disease. Sgt John Clark Died 29 January 1908, aged 39 Collapsed and died after policing the King's procession to Parliament. Sgt James Benjamin Paterson Died 21 June 1908, aged 53 Collapsed and died of heart failure parading for duty at the station. D/Sgt Alfred Barton Died 31 August 1908, aged 47 Found drowned whilst engaged on enquiries at Portsmouth Dockyard. PC George Rolfe Died 5 September 1908, aged 45 Fatally injured when he accidentally collided with a man while cycling. PC Joseph Williamson Died 9 December 1908, aged 38 Died of head injuries received in 1907 when kicked during an arrest. PC William Frederick Tyler Died 23 January 1909, aged 31 Shot dead while pursuing two gunmen after an armed robbery. PC Henry Perrett Died 23 January 1911, aged 46 Died suddenly from heart failure while on duty at Kensington Palace. PC John Brand Died 6 February 1911, aged 46 Collapsed and died on duty after the State Opening of Parliament. PC Charlie Kent Died 13 September 1911, aged 31 Collapsed and died of heart failure whilst on night duty. PC Frederick William Free Died 30 October 1911, aged 34 Drowned when knocked in a canal while operating a security boom. PC Charles William Soanes Died 21 April 1912, aged 33 Collapsed and died on his beat in the early hours in Bermondsey. Insp Alfred Edward Deeks Died 5 May 1912, aged 44 Collapsed and died dispersing boys causing nuisance outside a chapel. Sgt Walter James Heath Died 1 September 1912, aged 40 Fatally injured when accidentally shot unloading a police revolver. Sgt George Ernest Spooner Died 10 January 1913, aged 34 Fell overboard and drowned when a police motor boat struck a barge. PC David Stotesbury Died 31 May 1913, aged 44 Died as a result of injuries received in 1896 when kicked by a prisoner. Ch/In Francis Harry Rolfe Died 26 July 1914, aged 45 Died from injuries received in a fall over a rope barrier while on duty. SC Harry W. Wood Died 2 September 1914, aged 46 Collapsed and died of heart failure while on duty at Carshalton. PC George Johnson Died 17 September 1914, aged 44 Fatally injured when accidentally knocked down by a train. SC James John Christopher Potts Died 31 October 1914, aged 56 Collapsed and died assisting to arrest a violent man while off duty. RPC William Henry Edwards Died 1 December 1914, aged 49 Killed when knocked off his bicycle by a car outside the police station. SC John Edward Quinnell Died 11 December 1914, aged 36 Found drowned after being missed on duty at a river pumping station. PC Alfred Thomas Smith Died 20 December 1914, aged 34 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. SC George Eli Fowler Died 21 January 1915, aged 49 Killed when accidentally run over by a car while going on duty. SC George John Wiley Died 4 March 1915, aged 57 Collapsed and died when he went to assist a grounded army bi-plane. DC Alfred Young KPM Died 14 July 1915, aged 36 Shot dead attempting to arrest a wanted man he knew to be armed. SC Alexander Addison Marnie Died 11 September 1915, aged 52 Killed when he slipped between a wharf and a vessel while on patrol. SC Harry William Causbrook Died 14 October 1915, aged 37 Fatally injured by a bomb reporting for duty in an enemy Zeppelin air raid. SC Thomas Joseph Pinchon Died 13 October 1915, aged 24 Killed by a bomb reporting for duty during an enemy Zeppelin air raid. SC Edwin Henry A. Newman Died 29 October 1915, aged 55 Run down by a train while crossing the railway line on a foggy night. PC George William Saunders Died 26 February 1916, aged 38 Medically retired in 1913 after injury on duty and died of heart failure. D/Sgt Matthew McLoughlin Died 5 June 1916, aged 37 Drowned in the sinking of HMS Hampshire on Special Branch duty. PC Harold Frank Ricketts Died 11 September 1916, aged 23 Drowned when attempting to rescue a boy from a river while on holiday. SC William Alfred Ellis Died 17 September 1916, aged 56 Drowned when he fell in the canal while on patrol on a stormy night. DCI Alfred William Ward Died 5 September 1916, aged 50 Killed by a bomb at Scotland Yard during an enemy Zeppelin air raid. Insp Daniel Hubbard Died 3 October 1916, aged 40 Killed on patrol when he his cycle skidded and he was hit by a bus. PC Edward George B. Greenoff Died 28 January 1917, aged 30 Fatally injured while evacuating the area of a burning munitions factory. Posthumously awarded the King's Police Medal for Gallantry. PC Lawrence James Quibell Died 16 March 1917, aged 24 Fatally injured in a road accident in the Rosyth Dockyard fire engine. PC Alfred Smith Died 13 June 1917, aged 37 Killed by a bomb while evacuating the street during an enemy air raid. PC Michael Donovan Died 12 October 1917, aged 26 Drowned when he fell in a dock while on patrol on a stormy night. St/Sgt William James Wheeler Died 11 November 1917, aged 44 Took his own life while insane as a result of injuries received on duty. PC John Edwin Settrington Died 17 December 1917, aged 31 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. SC Henry Willis Shields King Died 18 December 1917, aged 38 Killed by a bomb while reporting for duty during an enemy air raid. A/Sgt Henry William Sawyer Died 16 February 1918, aged 36 Died from head injuries received when assaulted during an arrest. PC William Peck Died 20 February 1918, aged 42 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. PC George Henry Richard Judge Died 25 February 1918, aged 57 Fatally injured on night duty when struck by a car, which failed to stop. D/Sgt Charles Richard Lee Died 3 March 1918, aged 41 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. PC James Owen Hardy KPM Died 26 April 1918, aged 46 Killed in a fall off a cycle never fully recovered from an earlier assault. PC Herbert Berry Died 3 June 1918, aged 46 Collapsed and died as a result of injuries received during an arrest. PC Edward William Swan Died 1 November 1918, aged 38 Fatally injured when run over by an army lorry while on point duty. PC Frederick William Lambert Died 7 April 1919, aged 40 Fatally injured attempting to stop a runaway horse and trap. St/Sgt Thomas Green Died 18 June 1919, aged 51 Fatally injured when bludgeoned in a riot at Epsom police station. PC Frank Bryant Died 19 August 1919, aged 41 Died from injuries received while rescuing a lunatic from drowning. Awarded the King's Police Medal for Gallantry. PC Frederick James Beeson Died 29 August 1919, aged 51 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. Ch/In Frederick James Rivett Died 5 September 1919, aged 47 Fatally injured when thrown from his horse being frightened in traffic. PC Thomas Eldred B. Rowland Died 25 December 1919, aged 23 Died from a fractured skull after he was assaulted attempting an arrest. PC Page Mayes Janeway Died 2 February 1920, aged 45 Died of cancer believed aggravated by injury in the Epsom Police riot. Sgt Alfred James Tyler Died 2 February 1920, aged 46 Fatally injured when knocked down by a motor van while on patrol. PC James Kelly Died 22 February 1920, aged 34 Shot and fatally wounded pursuing an armed burglar he had disturbed. PC William Hoar Died 5 March 1920, aged 36 Collapsed and died in the street after being relieved from point duty. D/Sgt William Cecil Roberts Died 7 July 1920, aged 46 Collapsed and died of heart failure returning ill from duties in Scotland. PC William Henry Baseby Died 28 January 1921, aged 31 Killed in a bicycle accident while travelling home on duty. PC David Henry Wroth Died 20 April 1921, aged 49 Died of disease as a result of an accidental injury received on duty. PC William George Hallett Died 28 December 1921, aged 23 Fatally injured while on patrol when hit by a drunk driver in a stolen car. PC John Thomas Johnstone Died 5 May 1922, aged 36 Took his own life while of unsound mind as a result of injury on duty. PC Albert Ernest Cordwell Died 17 February 1923, aged 49 Died of disease as a result of injury received in execution of his duty. PC Edward Lock Died 19 July 1924, aged 47 Fatally injured when knocked down by a car after stopping a cyclist. PC Arthur Owen Holdaway Died 10 October 1924, aged 35 Died of injuries received when hit by a tram while regulating traffic. PC John Lloyd Died 18 December 1925, aged 52 Died as a result of injuries received in the execution of his duty. PC Edwin Percy Cook Died 7 October 1927, aged 33 Killed by fumes trying to rescue two men collapsed down a manhole. St/Sgt Anthony Sullivan Died 11 December 1927, aged 37 Fatally injured when knocked down by a car while on foot patrol. PC Sidney Ernest Eldridge Died 5 March 1928, aged 33 Fatally injured in a collision with a lorry while cycling to go on duty. PC Raymond Cyril Mitchell Died 26 July 1928, aged 29 Fatally injured when struck by a motorcycle while on point duty. PC David Fleming Ford Died 14 March 1929, aged 22 Fatally injured when he fell through a glass roof while pursuing burglars. PC John Arthur Self Died 23 August 1929, aged 44 Fatally injured when knocked to the ground while questioning a suspect. PC William George Benton Died 18 September 1929, aged 47 Died as a result of injuries received on traffic duty when hit by a car. PC Henry James Mullins Died 15 March 1930, aged 41 Found drowned in the river nearby where he had been on point duty. PC Harry Falshaw-Skelly Died 26 May 1930, aged 22 Fatally injured in a motorcycle accident while travelling to duty. PC Arthur Lawes Died 16 August 1930, aged 27 Fatally injured attempting to stop a stolen car, which ran him down. PC William George Ware Died 6 March 1931, aged 42 Drowned when his police motor patrol boat was hit by a steam tug. PC Walter Roland Thompson Died 12 May 1931, aged 43 Killed in a road accident at while cycling home from court. Sgt Walter Norman Savage Died 29 May 1931, aged 37 Fatally injured while cycling home from duty when struck by a car. PC George William Allen, 27 PC Harry Cautherley, 28 Died 28 November 1931 Killed when their police motorcycle combination crashed in a pursuit. Sgt Albert Frank Burge Died 6 June 1932, aged 47 Following the violent arrest of two gunmen he became ill and died. PC Frederick William Percy Died 14 March 1932, aged 24 Fatally injured on point duty when a cab failed to stop for his signal. PC Sidney Leslie George Bird Died 25 July 1933, aged 22 Fatally injured in a motorcycle accident while going off night duty. PC Albert Ernest Packer Died 23 November 1933, aged 35 Died of disease as a result of injury received in execution of his duty. Sgt Harold Victor Glasby Died 2 July 1934, aged 35 Drowned while saving his wife and two sons when their boat capsized. PC James Robert Carter Died 10 November 1934, aged 44 Fatally injured on point duty at night when knocked down by a car. PC George McGowan Bruce Died 27 December 1934, aged 50 Knocked down and killed by a car whilst cycling to his last night duty. PC Bernard Tutt Died 26 June 1937, aged 40 Fatally injured saving children from a vehicle mounting the pavement.
