Drowned together with Constables Angela Bradley and Colin Morrison, attempting to rescue a man from a very rough sea at Blackpool;
they were swept away by waves and despite attempts  to help each other all were lost.

5th January 1983, age 24


Gordon was jointly posthumously awarded the Constabulary's William Garnett Cup for the most gallant deed of the year.


Memorial plaques were sited at the scene at Gynn Square and at Constabulary Headquarters and later at the National Memorial Arboretum.
 He had completed six years service and had received two previous constabulary commendations for courageous conduct.
Gordon was survived by his wife who gave birth
to their son six months later.
