  Joseph Collie

 Police Watchman

Aberdeen City Night-Watch

Died 26 October 1835

 

While returning from duty at Waterloo Quay in the early hours during stormy weather he was blown into the dock waters and drowned.

 


 

James Fraser

 

Police Constable

Elginshire Constabulary

Died 19 July 1878, aged 39

 

Died from a stomach wound inflicted on 17 July, when he was stabbed while forcing entry to a hotel room in an attempt to arrest a deranged alcoholic, who had smashed up his room at the Grant Arms Hotel at Grantown.

 

An inscribed memorial stone was erected on his grave in Abernethy Churchyard at Nethybridge.

 


 

William Balfour Urquhart

Died 22 March 1904, aged 49

 

Collapsed and died of a ruptured aneurism, whilst struggling in the street to detain a youth who had been causing mischief in the locality.

 


George Craib

 

Police Constable

Aberdeen City Police

Died 22 August 1915, aged 40

 

After taking an injured girl from the scene of an accident to the infirmary, he was leaving the building when he fell heavily, possibly having fainted, and struck his head on the pavement suffering concussion from which he died later that day.

 


 

Alexander Castle

Aberdeenshire Constabulary

Died 6 September 1937, aged 27

 

Found seriously injured in the early hours of 5 September on the roadside next to his police motorcycle, apparently having struck a rabbit in the roadway and crashed while on patrol at Tillycorthie, and died the following day from a fractured skull.

 


 

Andrew Matthew

Died 26 January 1939, aged 49

 

Killed in a road accident when he was struck by a car while cycling home after finishing duty in the early hours.

 


 

Alexander Ross

Scottish North-Eastern Counties Constabulary

Died 6 May 1952, aged 35  

 

Killed while on motorcycle patrol when his machine collided with a 2-ton van being driven in the opposite direction at Deskford, Banffshire.

 


 

James McHardy

 

Police Constable

Scottish North-Eastern Counties Constabulary

Died 20 August 1972, aged 37

 

Killed while on patrol with Constable Sinclair, who was fatally injured, when a motor car travelling in the opposite direction, veered out of control and collided head on with the police car he was driving, also killing the two occupants of the other car, on the Aberdeen to Stonehaven Road.

 


 

Leslie Sinclair

Scottish North-Eastern Counties Constabulary

Died 24 August 1972, aged 42

 

Fatally injured while on patrol with Constable McHardy, who was also killed, when a motor car travelling in the opposite direction, veered out of control and collided head on with their police car, also killing the two occupants of the other car, on the Aberdeen to Stonehaven Road.

 


 

Alan Ewen Gordon

Died 10 August 1977, aged 38

 

Died from head injuries received late at night on 8 August when a drunken motorist he was attempting to interview drove off at speed; he attempted to stop the vehicle and was dragged some considerable distance before he fell from the vehicle in Market Street, Aberdeen and was fatally injured.

 


 

Patrick Burns

Died 10 December 1985, aged 38

 

Killed together with DC Ellis, when the police car he was driving skidded on ice and collided with a vehicle being driven in the opposite direction, the driver of which also died, on the Aberdeen to Stonehaven Road.

 


 

David Ellis

Died 10 December 1985, aged 30

 

Killed together with ADS Burns, when the police car in which he was observer, skidded on ice and collided with a vehicle being driven in the opposite direction, the driver of which also died, on the Aberdeen to Stonehaven Road.

 


 

Mark Gordon Davey

 

Police Constable

Grampian Police

Died 29 August 1995, aged 28

 

Died from injuries received on 28 August when the traffic patrol car in which he was observer returning from Forres to Elgin, went out of control, left the road and crashed into trees near Elgin.
