Thomas Corstorphin

 Town Officer

Burntisland Burgh

 

Died 19 January 1844

 

Fatally wounded when he was stabbed in the chest, while attempting to execute an arrest warrant on a mentally deranged man, who had been threatening members of the public with a knife in the town.

 



Alexander Lamond

 

Police Constable

Kirkcaldy Burgh Police

 

Died  26 May 1883, aged 27

 

When dealing with a disturbance at a house at Kirkcaldy Harbour late at night he was repeatedly bludgeoned by three men, including being struck with his own truncheon, and died from skull fractures early next morning.

 

Alexander was buried in Kirkcaldy Cemetery.

He had only joined the force two months earlier having previously served in the Aberdeenshire Constabulary.

A single man, he was survived by two brothers and a sister.

 



Daniel Campbell

 

Police Constable

Dunfermline City Police

 

Died  14 February 1915, aged 46

 

Collapsed while on patrol in Bath Street late on the night of 13 February, he was conveyed to his home but died the next day from a cerebral haemorrhage.

 

Daniel had completed 21 years service with the force; he was a native of Kennet near Alloa and was survived by his wife and daughter.

 


 

George Lambert Storrar

 

Special Constable

Fife County Constabulary

 

Died  23 January 1941, aged 38

 

While off duty, together with other miners, on the beach at West Wemyss, they tried to secure a drifting mine by attaching a wire when it exploded and he was killed along with others.

 

His name is inscribed in the Commonwealth War Graves Commission Civilian War Dead Roll.

 

The Scottish Home Department approved a Special Widows Pension on account of his death having been as a result of the execution of his duties.

 


George Hughes

Police Sergeant
Fife Constabulary

Died 22 February 1979, aged 42

Fatally injured in a road traffic accident while travelling to duty, when his vehicle was involved in a head on collision.

George's wife Ray who was in the car with him was also killed; they were survived by their daughter and two sons.


Alasdair Tay Ferry

Temporary Sergeant
Fife Constabulary

Died 8 October 2003, aged 40

Fatally injured in a road traffic accident, when his motorcycle was in collision with a car and a bus, while on duty in Edinburgh where he was seconded to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service to develop diversity training.

Alasdair joined the force in 1982, serving at Dunfermline, Dalgety Bay and Force HQ before his secondment in January 2003. Born in Malaysia he specialised in diversity issues and was the first Chairman of the new SEMPERscotland support network.
He was survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.


Derrick Scougal

Assistant Chief Constable
Fife Constabulary

Died 28 September 2004, aged 45

Collapsed and died while attending a national police conference at Ayr.

Derrick was a native of Edinburgh and had studied at Aberdeen University and Oxford before joining Northumbria Police in 1984. He transferred to Fife Constabluary as ACC in charge of all operational matters in 2002.
He was survived by his wife and two sons aged 17 and 14.


Kirsty Allan

Police Constable
Fife Constabulary

Died 2 March 2007, aged 24

Killed in a road traffic accident while travelling to report for duty at Oakley when her car lost control on an icy road and overturned near Dunfermline.

Kirsty was appointed in February 2005 and had just completed her probation; she was stationed at West Fife Villages Police Station at Oakley.
She was survived by her husband and their 3 year old son.
