Died 20 February 1970, aged 46

Killed when his patrol car skidded on icy roads and struck a lamp post whilst responding to an emergency burglar alarm call in the early hours at Derby.

Ellis joined Derby Borough Police in March 1948; he was the Station Sergeant at Pear Tree Police Station and had several commendations for his work.

He was survived by his wife and two sons aged 20 and 17 years.

(Tragically both Ellis's sons died prematurely, Kevin who had been a successful actor died in 1998 aged 49, and Terry, 50, a respected TV news reporter was
killed by US soldiers in an incident while reporting on the Iraq War in 2003.)
