Died 26 December 1930, aged 51

Fatally injured while alighting from a moving omnibus near his home at Ashover, when his police cape caught in the door and he fell under the wheels sustaining crush injuries including a fractured skull from which he died soon afterwards.

   Before he died the sergeant said his cape had caught in the door and the driver was not to blame; an inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death.

Arthur had completed 25 years service in the force where he was in charge of the Pilsley and Ashover Section.

He was survived by his wife, their two adult daughters and an adult son.

He was buried at Clay Cross cemetery.
