Died 4 August 1894, aged 34

 During the late evening, while on his rounds and making his way to Willington along the North Staffordshire Railway line, he was accidentally knocked down and run over by a train near Findern, sustaining multiple fatal injuries.

An inquest jury returned a verdict of accidental death.

George had completed 12 years police service and was stationed at Willington.

He was survived by his wife and four children.

He was buried at the Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels
in his native village of Church Broughton.
