Died 11 October 1835, aged 49
About midnight on 10
November he was assisting his son, the town Police Officer and two other
Constables with arrests during disturbances in Kendal when he was violently
kicked receiving injuries from which he later died.

Died 30 June 1841
Fatally bludgeoned on 29th June when dispersing a mob during election disturbances.
Joseph Byrnes

Died 29 October 1885, aged 34
After a violent struggle he was shot in the head and fatally wounded when, unarmed and knowing other officers had already been shot, he attempted to arrest three armed burglars whom he confronted alone at Plumpton.
An inscribed
memorial stone was erected at the scene just outside Plumpton.

Died 7 March 1886, aged 41
While assisting another officer to apply handcuffs to a man, who was violently resisting arrest for being drunk and disorderly at Stramongate, Kendal, he was kicked in the head, fracturing his skull and died soon after.
An inscribed
memorial stone was erected on his grave at Kendal Cemetery.

Found drowned in unknown circumstances after he had been on duty at Carlisle Railway Station.

Collapsed and died when he was on point duty directing traffic in Workington.

Collapsed and died whilst patrolling his beat on night duty.
Lyall Law Milton

Died 30 October 1964, aged 34
Found dead lying on the road outside the city near his crashed police motorcycle shortly after midnight having suffered a fractured skull apparently having been involved in a road accident while on traffic patrol.

Died 10 February 1965, aged 36
Shot and fatally wounded when, unarmed and knowing police officers had already been fired on, he confronted an armed suspect and called upon him to surrender at Oxenholme Railway Station, Kendal.
Posthumously
awarded the Queen's Police Medal for Gallantry
and a Memorial bust was set high
on the outside wall of Carlisle Cathedral.

Stopped to assist a motorist
with an engine fire, which they were attempting to extinguish, when he was
struck and killed by a passing van, at Ash Fell near Kirkby Stephen.

at a disturbance late at night at Cleator Moor, Whitehaven.

Fatally injured in a road
traffic accident, while assisting in a vehicle pursuit, when a van he was
overtaking pulled out and collided with his police motorcycle, on the A595 near
Workington.
